MARLIN was saved from Fort Worth Animal Care and Control Kill Shelter in Texas.

His temporary foster mum picked him and within a few hours it was clear that something was not right as whatever he ate or drank he would regurgiate back up. She contacted me and then took him to the vets where after x--rays, and many tests he was diagosed with having Mega Esophagus. This is basically where the muscles in the throat do not work and since the dogs esophagos is in a horizontal position, food does not reach the stomach and causes a regurgitation reflex. This would be the cause for his severe malnutrition and very much under-weight.

The vets, Alvarado Veterinary Clinic, to my disgust asked if we wanted to have him euthanized, however, luckily for MARLIN, GaDaH does not kill dogs just because they are an inconvenience and we know that out-there is a wonderful family who has the care, patience and love to give this boy.

MARLIN acts like a normal young German Shepherd Dog, he plays, he runs, he barks, he wrestles, he is a complete love bug and he is very well mannered. Apart from his feeding routine and the need for extra supplements, he is no problem at all. Over the time at the rescue MARLIN has gained a good amount of weight, his ribs and spine is no longer sticking out -he eats kibble, but I also give him canned prescription diet food to ensure he gets nutrients.

There are lots of things that can be made, bought or done to help make life easier for Mega-E dogs and once in a routine, it really is not too much of a big deal.

MARLIN is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, lepto vaccine, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of around 25th September 2014.

MARLIN is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450.

MARLIN is currently located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine, 04481, however, we post in states along the east coast and Canada  as this gives our precious saved souls more exposure and once adopted, we are able to save more dogs from the kill shelters in Texas that get 3 days before they are killed.
