DIXIE was saved from Dallas Animal Services, which is a high kill shelter in Texas, on 29th July 2015. She was transport up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
DIXIE is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, lepto vaccine, de-wormed, heartworm tested and micro-chipped. At the time of rescue she weighed only 47 pounds and obviously needs to gain a good amount of weight. She has an estimated date of birth of 23 January 2014.
DIXIE is a stunning sweet girl who has clearly had puppies, but no puppies were found when she was picked up from the streets by animal control. It is unknown if she got caught pregnant from being a stray, or more than likely she was used as a breeding dog and cast aside when she was no longer needed.
DIXIE is very affectionate and loving and is happy to give kisses. She loves walking by my side in the play room and will push her muzzle into my hand wanting me to scratch her head or tickle her jaw or ears as we walk around.
DIXIE is great with other dogs of all sizes and currently shares a large kennel with 3 other female German Shepherd Dogs.
DIXIE although has a lot of weight to gain, which will take a good amount of time since her stomach has shrunk so much, would benefit from an active family. She is still young and when she has restored her weight, she will be raring to go. DIXIE rides great in the car and loves to go for rides. A family that hikes, goes to the beach, or any outdoor activities would suit DIXIE well.
DIXIE will benefit from some basic and advanced training from her family, which not only helps her to learn expectations, boundaries and such, but allows both her and her humans to learn each others personalities and body language which will form stronger bonding.
DIXIE is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog rescue for an adoption fee of $400.
If you think you have room in your heart and home for this precious girl, please go to our website and under the APPLICATION tab, complete and submit the application. They generally take 3-7 days to process and once approved, we can work on her starting her new life. We do encourage families to come up to Sebec, Maine to meet our dogs, however, we understand that this is not always possible and so are happy to work with families to find reliable transport. This can be at an additional cost to the adopter, but we do work with rescue friendly transport to ensure we get the best possible rates.
