MILO was saved from Dallas Animal Services, Texas.
MILO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 21 February 2015. At the time of rescue he weighed around 28 pounds, he now weighs around 50 pounds.
MILO has been diagnosed with mild Scoliosis, which is an abnormal position or curvature of the spine, and most often it is congenital. Currently there is no need for treatment and MILO is relatively active with the rest of the dogs. On the odd days he doesn't run around so much and is happy chewing on his kong, ball or antler, this is most likely when it is causing him some discomfort.
Scoliosis can be progressive and so MILO will need a family that is conscious of his condition and financially able to have monitoring and any suggested treatment, medications which would most likely by pain medications for days that he is hurting. Learning MILO's behaviour and such is a must so you will know when he is needing quiet days. Scoliosis is apparently rare in dogs and doesn't generally cause any trouble, however, monitoring the spine to ensure it is not getting curvier is something his family will need to monitor and working with your vet.
Although having Scoliosis MILO does love to run and play and he is happy when he has something in his mouth, be it a ball, or a bit of fluff and he will happily parade it around to show you what a good boy he is with his object in his mouth,
MILO is extremely responsive and training will be very easy, he is very toy motivated. He is also very affectionate and with training would make an excellent therapy dog as he is goofy, but loving and affectionate also.
All of our volunteers and everyone that meets MILO falls totally in love with him. He walks well on the leash, but of course could do with some practice.
MILO will need a family that has a lot of time and dedication to give this handsome boy. He is eager to learn and will be a lot of fun to train and work with. He will need a family that can give him basic and advanced obedience training to keep his mind challenged and to learn some manners and of what is expected of him and of course what to expect of his new humans.
MILO would benefit a relatively active family that like to go on car rides and walks to different areas, letting him take in the smells, sights and sounds that the world has to offer. We do have a rabbit in two X-large dog crates that are attached together and MILO has never shown any kind of interest to it at all. We do NOT have cats in the rescue and so cannot comment on his behaviour around cats.
MILO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350
MILO is currently located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine, 04481, however, we post in states along the east coast and Canada as this gives our precious saved souls more exposure and once adopted, we are able to save more dogs from the kill shelters in Texas that get 3 days before they are killed.
If you are interested in adopting MILO, please go the APPLICATION tab, to complete and submit the application. Ensure that your references are aware that a GaDaH representative will be calling them and your permission to talk to us. Applications generally take 3-7 days to get processed.
