NYX was found as a stray in the Midland, TX area. She had been caught and a microchip led her back to the local shelter, who had confirmed that she had infact been adopted a year ago. It turns out the person that owned her had died and NYX had been left to fend for herself. I was asked if I would take her into rescue, which as you can see, I agreed to do.
NYX when I picked her up was very sweet and affectionate, but she got rather feisty when with other dogs. She is a very confident girl and I'm sure in a home environment she would be an alpha dog. I had to keep her on her own for a few days as she would be not nice to other dogs, However, on one of the storms that we had, I had gone to check on her and she was shaking, so I brought her with me and the rest of the dogs. I have kept her with the pack when I am around, but do crate her if I have to leave or cannot supervise. She does still get feisty when with all the dogs, but not actually wanting to fight.
For this reason I am only willing to adopt this beautiful girl out to be either an only dog, or with an experienced German Shepherd or working dog family who has the time to supervise and correct her when she gets a little feisty. It might just be that she is settling in after whatever horrors and heartbreak she endured when her owner died, but I do not want to take any chances.
Other than her being fiesty, NYX is a very sweet, affectionate girl, she is bursting with energy and just loves to chase and run with the dogs when they are having their crazy 4 hours lol. She likes her toys and is happy entertaining herself. She does NOT like the crate, but that could also be because I am leaving, I do think she might have some separation anxiety due to what she has been through - so although I do not normally use crates, in times like this they are useful. If she was my own dog, I would put her in a gated room and see how she does. I do not think she will be destructive, but she is never on here own here. So this is something that would need to be considered as a POSSIBILITY.
NYX does pull on the leash, although is very responsive and I believe would be very easy to train. As with all German Shepherds they absolutely need and benefit from both basic and advanced training with their family. This not only strengthens the bond, but helps both human and dog learn and understand each others personalities, body language and expectations. Boundaries can also be set.
NYX would benefit from an active family who has experience with GSD or working breeds and understands their needs of both physical and mental exercise. A family that can take her on adventures and even a sport or other stimulation that is fun and active.
NYX is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm tested negative and mirco-chipped.She is around 3 years old and weighs approximately 65 pounds.
NYX is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $350.
