ALLEGRA was saved with her best buddy GENEVA from BARC Animal Shelter in Houston on 15th March 2015. Both girls had been surrendered by their owner and no reason was given.

When ALLEGRA first came to rescue she was very fearful and depended a lot of GENEVA, who clearly had a protective instinct with ALLEGRA. I kept them together for a few weeks so that they could get used to the environment and the other dogs, but in an area on their own. When I was happy they had relaxed enough, I let them with the rest of the pack.

ALLEGRA at first was nervous and she would stick close to GENEVA, however, over a short time ALLEGRA has found her own confidence with the dogs and is truly a happy girl running, playing, chasing and wrestling with the other dogs.

ALLEGRA does get over excited and she does jump up, so this would definitely be something that needs to be worked upon. She LOVES the water and when I say water, that includes mud. She is no longer clingy and is happy doing her own thing, which is generally chasing and playing with the other dogs.

It is clear that ALLEGRA has suffered some form of physical abuse because sometimes if I even go to touch her she will scream and cower. She is getting much better, but this is something that needs to be considered, understanding and no sudden movements that would make her think she was going to get hurt, This isn't something that happens all the time, but often enough for it to be pointed out.

I had initially wanted ALLEGRA and GENEVA to be adopted together as they was so bonded, but now I am happy to adopt the girls out to their own families.
ALLEGRA has gained so much confidence being with the pack, she just needs to be able to gain that confidence with humans too.

ALLEGRA is good with dogs of all sizes, we do have terriers and pups in the rescue and although at times she is a little rough, she is so without realizing and as soon as she hears that yelp, she backs off and calms down a little, or goes to find someone else to play.

ALLEGRA would benefit from a family that has the time to commit to her training and providing all the exercise and stimulation that she needs. A family that understands the need of the German Shepherd Dog and the requirement for not just physical but also mental exercise. She is definitely going to need basic and advanced training and it would be best for the family to do this as it not only creates a stronger bond, but it sets boundaries and expectations and enables both dog and human to learn more about each others personalities, temperaments and body language.

ALLEGRA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, tested negative for heart-worm disease and is micro-chipped. ALLEGRA has been given an estimated birth date of 12 July 2014 and at the time of rescue weighed around 36 pounds
ALLEGRA is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450.
