IRIS was saved from Brazoria Sheriffs pound. Sadly she had distemper. IRIS went neurological and received TWO spinal tap surgeries which stopped the distemper from spreading and consequently saved her life.
IRIS is the sweetest dog ever, she does have a constant muscle twitching, kind of like Parkinson's disease. This, however, does not stop her, she will run and play with the other pups, she gets around everywhere on her own.
It is hard not to pity her if you see her lying her body constantly twitching, mainly towards her back legs, however, when you see her look at you, and her tail instantly wag, her get up and come over to you it can do nothing but melt your heart and change that pity to admiration.
IRIS deserves a family that can spend time with her, give her lots of loving and fun, take her on lots of adventures. IRIS would be great with children and I'm sure since she has been through so much surrounded by the pack, she would be happy with another k9 companion - but this of course isn't a deal breaker.
We have adopted two other distemper survivors that had the twitching like IRIS and it did get less over time, it will never go away as the distemper damages nerves, but it appears that it is more apparent when they are sleeping and their mind not over-riding their body.
IRIS adoption donation is $150
GaDaH does allow out of state adoptions, however, the family must travel to San Antonio, to spend time with the dog to make sure personalities are a good match before traveling home together.
For the adoption process and the application, please refer to the application page on this website.
