DRAKE, came to Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue as a stray, a wonderful family had found him, taken him in to be safe and we worked out transfer from there.

DRAKE was taken to our wonderful vet, Dr. Guevara, and was checked over, he had a blood panel, which showed POSITIVE for Heart worm and abnormal kidney levels, he had x-rays of his hips and they are PERFECT, he was of course extremely thin, and under-nourished. He is aged at around 6 years old.

DRAKE stayed with the pack, and settled in well, he was on Doxycylcine for a month to kill off the heart-worm bacteria and on 5/6th September he received the heart-worm treatment.

I'm glad to report that DRAKE is doing great, he plays with the pack, young and old, he has the most magnificent gait, with the traditional German Shepherd Dog Disposition. He is very well behaved, he is well mannered, and he just needs lots of loving.

His kidney levels indicate that he could be in the very early stages of Kidney Disease, but we intend to have his blood work checked on a monthly basis and we have put him on a low phosphors / low sodium diet. 
 

(DRAKE had another blood panel in early June 2013, and his levels have all stayed the same, so no progression at all)

High/low kidney levels are an indication of heart-worm disease which we knew he had, so want to monitor him from see if he does have kidney disease of not. If he does it is easily treated and he has a good 4 or maybe more years ahead of him. The DIET is the way to treat this disease, if he does in deed have it.

DRAKE is a Pure Bred GSD, and really will win anyone's heart. We are hoping to find him the perfect home, he had been lonely for too long, and here although he has fun living with a pack, sharing the sofa, he really deserves a family to call his own, a family whom he can watch-over and feel proud to have them taking him on nice long walks.

DRAKE is totally house-trained, neutered, microchipped, up to date on his shots and rabies, has had the HW treatment, walks great on a leash and is a true Gentleman!
