FRODO is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. He has had a tough life already and he is still so young. He had been badly abused, extremely fearful of humans, treated like a raging tiger as a puppy at the shelter, and was so scared he wouldn't have his bowl movements.

After lots of work and time, FRODO learnt to trust and relaxed with the pack, he gained trust in humans and we thought we had found the perfect home. This didn't work out, as FRODO was allowed to "rule the roost" at a young age and he came back to GaDaH.
FRODO was taken to the GaDaH vet (Callaghan Road Animal Hospital, Dr. G) with suspected hip dysplasia. X-rays showed that his right leg did indeed have the start of hip dysplasia, however, more importantly both his knees were bowed.
Since FRODO is still young, his growth plates are not yet 100% complete in his legs and so Dr. G does not want to perform any surgery until then. It is estimated that around November 2012, FRODO will be able to have surgery.
His first surgery in November will be Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) on his right hip, this is where the diseased hip joint is taken out, thus taking away any and all future pain. He will also have surgery on his right knee. Part of the bone will be cut away, pulled back into place, and then pinned. It will take approximately 3 months to recover, with light exercise increasing over time, and some basic stretching exercises.
Around March 2013 FRODO will go back to Dr. G, to have his other knee operated on, in the same manner.
Although this might put people off, ALL of FRODO's surgery costs will be paid for by the rescue, through donations and fundraising.
FRODO is one of the sweetest dogs ever, he will play nicely with the other dogs, yet when he has had enough he will go and chill out in the rescue room. He waits patiently for treats behind all the other dogs, and is very well behaved.
After care surgery will not be too intense, he will obviously require pain medications and anti-inflammatory, and anything else deemed necessary by Dr. G. You will be amazed at how agile these dogs are, and he will be out and about in no time. Your job is ensuring he builds up his muscle in the time-frame expected, and more than anything give him lots of the one on one love and attention that he cannot possibly get whilst at the rescue.
FRODO is:
An indoor boy
Neutered
Rabies
Microchipped
Heartworm Negative
up to date on his shots
House trained
Loves to play
Very loving and affectionate, although can be reserved
Would make the perfect companion
