DRAKO was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs often have only 3 days to be saved. DRAKO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick disease tested negative for all. He is de-wormed, monthly preventatives and microchipped. At the time of rescue at the end of November 2020, he weighed around 21 pounds and has an estimated date of birth 13 November 2019
. We cannot say for sure what breed he is, so we expect families to do their own research on his look and size and decide what breed you think he is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for his needs.
DRAKO after arriving at the rescue at the end of November 2020, was adopted to a great family on 19th December 2020. However, GaDaH received a phone call on 3rd February 2021 saying that they needed to bring him back as he was not good with their cats and he continues to mark around the house. Drako arrived back at the rescue on 6 February and after his initial hesitation became so excited at being with all his doggy friends. In the 24 hours (at the time of writing) he has been back I have only noticed pee - twice and cannot guarantee it is him. He is so happy and excited, although he was with all the other dogs in the living room, he did cry and whine through the night - which is to be expected for a dog who is used to being the center of attention.
Since DRAKO was around a year old when he was neutered he already had all his crazy teenage hormones and it can take months for them to stop the urge / need to mark. It is important that families work to prevent them doing this, not just for their sanity but also to stop this becoming a behaviour. Ensuring that he knows you are the pack-leader is important and of course there are always belly-bands that can be used whilst he is in the house. This is a fixable behaviour that just requires consistency, taking preventative steps, belly-band, crating, monitoring and using an enzymatic cleaner to neutralize any smells ect, he is young so it is very workable.
It is not recommended he go to live with a a family that has cats.
Drako is very affectionate and a happy-go-lucky dog, he loves everyone he meets and everyone that has met him, loves him. He never stops wagging his tail and jumps and spizzes round in excitement. He needs an active family that is going to take him out on walks and adventures and let him explore the outside world.
The family are upset to have to bring him back as other than those two issues he was the perfect dog.
PREVIOUS BIO before Adoption in December 2020
We saved him with his brother Charcoal. Both boys were in quarantine in the shelter for bites, however, I have yet to find the actual reason. The shelter reported that both boys were very sweet and I agree they are beyond adorable. Although brothers, I have kept them in separate kennels, albeit next to each other, until I get the details. It could have been two un-neutered teenagers, just getting into a quarrel, but chances are not worth the risk so until I get more time or more information they can be neighbours.
Both boys are total love bugs, they never stop wagging not just their tails, but their bodies, they can be vocal when they want attention. They have the cuties faces and personalities to match.
Although a medium sized
dog, he is still active and
so we are looking for an active family who can give this sweet boy the lifestyle he needs to keep him happy and healthy.
More pictures and possible video's can be found on his page on the rescue website.
All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.
All dogs are fed Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison. Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor’s second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars.
DRAKO is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
Due to borders being closed, it is up to families to call the US and Canadian borders to find the current details on border crossing. Animal Welfare is deemed essential in the US, but quarantine rules entering back into Canada must be followed.
