PORTER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine PORTER is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 6 September 2018 and at the time of rescue in September 2020 weighed around 54 pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
Porter is a fun, happy, goofy boy. He loves to run and charge around, although at times he can be like a bison in a stampede when he gets to run in the fenced in area and loves to wrestle with the other dogs. He can initially play a little rough, he is a strong boy, so it is important he and other dogs get to know each other first before allowed to have high energy play. He loves every human he has met and totally won the heart of the transport lady and became her favourite dog on the ride. He is loving, affectionate, loves to lean into you as you pet him, he is responsive and although he does jump up a little, which is very common for rescue/shelter dogs, that is something that can be easily trained.
He is an active boy, so he does need a family with an active lifestyle, throwing ball in the bark yard is not enough for this handsome boy. He also needs lots of mental stimulation, training, tricks, lots of exploring and challenging puzzle toys. He doesn't like other dogs be near him when he is eating, so if other family pets, they should not be fed close together and supervised. He has never been aggressive just growling, which is of course a way of communicating for dogs.
Porter would make a great active family dog, he is loving, fun, affectionate, high energy, playful and active. He will be easy to train and be eager to please.
All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.
All dogs are fed Rachael Ray Nutrish PEAK Natural Dry Dog Food, Grain Free Western Grasslands Recipe with Bison. Rachael Ray Nutrish Peak Dog Food receives the Dog Food Advisor’s second-highest tier rating of 4.5 stars.
We are not able to comment how any of our dogs are around cats or livestock, if you have either, then you must be responsible and ensure that other animals are protected, have escape routes and commit to spending time with an introduction, adjustment period.
PORTER is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.
