FREYER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine. FREYER is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 21 January 2019 and at the time of rescue in the end of August 2019, weighed around 33.00 pounds. The shelter has a breed listing of Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur Mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
FREYER was adopted in October 2019, but sadly returned to the rescue on 1st May 2020.
The sad story, a few weeks ago whilst on a walk, a dog visciously attacked Freyer, latching on to her head and causing deep puncture wounds. The police and animal control were informed and that is as much as I know about that.
The 5 year old grandson who lives there now was there and witnessed the whole thing and as you can imagine is traumatized by it all - but sadly his trauma seems to be linked directly with Freyer even though she did absolutely nothing wrong, was attacked whilst on leash and suffered. The little boy won't go in the same room as her and the child therapist says it could take a long time, if ever at all for him to get over it and so poor Freyer was staying in a different room from the family when the little boy was up.
It breaks my heart for this poor girl, already been dumped at a kill shelter, gets a wonderful family has a great life, then for no reason gets attacked by another dog - I'm guessing was loose - then she has to come back to the rescue suffering from the trauma of the attack and now being given up on (in her mind I am sure) by her family.
She was so stressed when we met up - dogs know for sure when something is going on - she growled the uncertain growl at me, but jumped in the car - I put all the dogs out and brought her in the house and left her at the bottom end away from the other dogs so she could just get use to the noise, the smells and general environment and then did some plant potting on the back deck so she could come and get used to me - which she did.
As she got more comfortable, I brought her over to the bedroom where she has been hanging out on the bed, very nervous at first but relaxing a lot more and she just gives the bestest snuggles ever.
This beauty is around 54 pounds and will need to adjust, trust and figure out what, once again, has happened to her. She is great with other dogs - but after the attack, dogs she doesn't know will need a slow introduction and letting her go at her own pace - she is a master wrestler when she trusts.
She has an estimated date of birth of January 2019 and weighs around 54 pounds.
FREYER arrived at the rescue on Thursday, 12th September and settled in great. She is a very happy, fun, active and loving girl. She loves to chase, wrestle and play with the other dogs, she can get a bit rough with the smaller ones, but once they let her know that is enough, she does back off and will go and chase and play with someone else. She shares her double kennel with Buster and they get on great, they sleep cuddled up together, play together, share toys food and water with no worries.
FREYER is a high energy girl and will need a family that understands the importance of not just training, but also mental stimulation, along with of course, an active lifestyle to give her what she needs to be happy and healthy throughout her life. FREYER is a smart girl and it won't take long to train her and work on boundaries, expectations and such.
WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMENT HOW SHE WILL BE AROUND CATS OR LIVESTOCK.
FREYER is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
