Animal Welfare organizations have been deemed as essential business, and so we are able to continue our operation.
However, we are taking the threat of COVID-19 very seriously and are following the government guidelines and implemting our own precautions.
Meet & Greets will continue to be on an appointment basis only. They will take place either in the outside enclosed area, or the large room at the end of he kennels. There is a no contact, other than with the dog in place and children will not be allowed out of their vehicles.
GIGI was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine GIGI is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 13 January 2019 and at the time of rescue in February 2020 weighed around 35 pounds. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
GIGI arrived at the rescue on Tuesday, 25th February and as all energy and love. She is living in a communal area with other dogs of all ages and sizes, up to 120 pound German Shepherds and has been doing great. She is a very excitable girl and does jump up a lot, but that is something that can easily be trained out of her, and she will most likely not do it as much when she is in a home environment and not in an over-stimulating rescue.
Gigi is a lot of fun, but is high energy and does need a family that is active, she needs to be going on walks, hikes, adventures to allow her to release her energy and also have some mental stimulation with all the new sights, smells and sounds. Gigi is still young and training is critical, not just for obedience but so she can learn what is expected from her, setting bounderies and guidelines. It also helps when families train the dogs so that both family and dog can learn each others personalities and body language and a much stronger bond is formed.
All dogs use dog doors to go out and do their business or to enjoy the cool, fresh weather in their dog runs or communal areas. We cannot say if a dog is house-trained, however, we expect families to understand that all dogs need a transition period and accidents could happen and training is most definitely needed.
