MEL was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved and transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine MEL is spayed, core vaccines, de-wormed, monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 23 June 2019 and at the time of rescue in the end of August 2019, weighed around 5.00 pounds. The shelter has a breed listing of German Shepherd / Husky Mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
MEL is a puppy and would be best suited to a family who has another dog or other animals and be willing to ensure she has lots of socializion with other dogs and is willing to take training very seriously. She will be coming up to the age where she will be teething and chewing on anything and everything. A patient family who understands she is a baby and needs to learn and knows that having a puppy is a LOT of WORK.
This sweet little pup is not just adorable but loving, affectionate, playful and just a great little package. She lives with other pups and small dogs and is happy cuddling and playing with them all. She does use the dog door to go out on the back porch and do her business and play. She will use puppy pads also that are inside near the door at night time. She is of course not house-trained and will need to learn o let you know she needs to go out and accidents should be expected.
Although she is tiny and sweet she is not a toy and we are looking for a family that takes adopting dogs seriously - she still needs walks and adventures, she needs to be trained, she is of course going to be teething soon, so a family that understands this time and needs that she has and also the chance that she will chew on things.
MEL has only been with other dogs so we would prefer a family that has another dog for company for her, but if the family has the right lifestyle and attitude towards small dogs, then this would not be a deal-breaker.
WE ARE NOT ABLE TO COMMENT HOW SHE WILL BE AROUND CATS OR LIVESTOCK.
MEL is available for adoption for an adoption fee of US $550.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada.
