NOVA-1 was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. NOVA is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 15 September 2016 and at the time of rescue at the end of September 2018 weighed around 9.00 pounds. He is listed as a Lhasa Apso We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
Nova is a sweet boy who generally keeps himself to himself most of the time, he has his few friends that he hangs around with, but doesn't get involved of the hustle and bustle of lots of dogs at play. If I am around, he is around and wherever I am and he loves to get snuggles and his ears scratched. He is good with other dogs and enjoys their company, currently living with
dogs from 6 pound chihuahua's up to 120 pound German Shepherd Dogs. He is friendly and happy to greet people. He enjoys exploring outside and when ready to rest he curls up with his friends in front of the pellet stove keeping toasty warm. He is always happy to see people and runs in with the other dogs, tail wagging.
He does have a long coat which is going to take a good level of care and maintenance and this must be a consideration when thinking about giving this boy a home. If his grooming needs are not stayed on top of, his hair will matt and become painful. Groomers can be expensive so unless you are able to groom him yourself, this extra cost must be taken into account.
He is young and active and will need a family that can give him a good active life, suitable for his size. He is a love bug and is more than happy to sit by your side or follow you whilst doing daily jobs, but can also easily entertain himself chewing on the hooves. I have not seen him with children, but his demeanor and personality I have no doubt that he would be great with them and a lot of fun too.
As with all rescue's he needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with him themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. He is young and still active and so a family that goes on adventures is preferred. He has never shown any kind of aggression at all, as mentioned she lives, eats and sleeps with lots of other dogs and enjoys their company and so a family with another dog would be great, but if not then it is important that he gets to play and interact with other dogs throughout his life. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would behave near or with them.
All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
