China was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. China is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 21 February 2014 and weighs around 75 pounds. Sh is listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

China was an owner surrender and her family continued to foster her until we could get her on transport and will be / has arrived at the rescue in Sebec, Maine on Saturday 22nd September 2018. This is what her family said about her from her owner surrender form. China is great with big dogs, male or female, but does prefer only male small dogs and needs to be watched around small female dogs. She is great with people and loves small children and is very friendly and welcoming when meeting new people. She is house trained and will pace around the door to let you know she wants to go out. She was free to roam around the house and generally sleeps either on her dog bed or on the couch. She can be a little protective with her food if another dog tries to eat it, but just chases them and has never shown any kind of aggression.

She does have fear and anxiety issues with load noises, heavy rain, thunder, fireworks and if outside will try and dig to get out. If inside she generally paces. The family did try a thundershirt but it had no affect. They let her sleep in their bedroom however, she would still pace. She is a typical German Shepherd in that she wants to be with her humans and will follow them anywhere they go. If bored she will get into the trash and look up on the counter, so best to keep the counter free from food and the trash either empty or out of her reach. The family are surrendering her as they sadly do not have the time to give her the kind of life that she needs and deserves.

China is high energy boy who needs guidance and training with her new family and it is important that she has a family that understands this and has the time and patience to work with her. It is important that they spend time as a family to work on training, setting boundaries and learning each others personality and body language. She is going to be confused and upset at not being with the family she lived with all of her life.

We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so we cannot comment on how she would be around them, dogs generally are very curious and playful and so I would expect chasing at a minimum.

China is a very happy, social girl and has never shown any kind of aggression at all, she lives, eats and sleeps with lots of other dogs and puppies and enjoys the company and so a family with another dog would be great, but if not then it is important that she gets to play and interact with other dogs throughout her life. We do NOT recommend dog parks for several months until a bond and trust and knowing to read his body language has been gained.

China is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue which is located in Sebec, Maine, for an adoption fee of $550. This fee covers the costs incurred by the rescue to save this precious soul and get her to the US. The fee is not negotiable. We post in other states and in Canada to ensure our saved dogs get as much exposure as possible and the perfect families are found. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed

China is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
