Chubby was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. Chubby is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, had monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 10 March 2015 . She has been listed as a Yorkshire Terrier  mix.  We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

Chubby was adopted with her brother whom she was bonded too on 7th April 2018. On 26th August I had an email from her owner stating that she is aggressive and protective in her home and of her owner and she no longer feels she can care for her. She said she went to a trainer who told her that she needs to be with a one person owner with a fenced in yard. I disagree with the one person owner, Chubby was here at the rescue and was social and loving. I believe that as with almost all the dogs we have ever had returned it is because they become protective of their home and owners and there is never any negative consequence to their behaviour and so they continue and it escalates. She was returned to the rescue on 2nd September and after taking a few days to adjust and get over the upset and confusion of being back at the rescue her personality came back out. She is content with being around the other dogs, she will come outside and be amongst them all. In the house she tends to sit on the back of the chair or sofa, but would much rather be on my lap. She isn't really playful with the other dogs, but as mentioned is fine around them, unless them come into her space in which she will growl or chase them off, which is what all dogs do here when they want to be left alone.

She enjoys going outside and would benefit an active family with walks, if she shows any negative behaviour towards other dogs or people, then that behaviour needs to be addressed immediately so she knows it isn't acceptable. She is very responsive and I do not feel that this would be difficult to do.

I believe she needs an owner who is not going to "baby her", it is ok spoiling and fussing over dogs, however, they need to know right from wrong and they need an alpha personality whom they can look up to and respect, otherwise they step up to the alpha position and if this isn't stopped, they take control of the people and the property.

This was from her bio before she was adopted:

When Lil-Bubbie and Chubby arrived at the rescue they were extremely scared. I had them living in the small dog area so that they could decompress and adjust to all the new changes and where they could also see the other dogs interacting with me. Lil-Bubbie after a day or so gained his confidence and he is happy to go and explore and follow me around. Chubby took a bit longer and even then she was still scared. I brought them both over to the house so that they could adjust a little better and within a few hours both dogs were jumping up on the sofa, lying as close as they could and enjoying the attention. Lil-Bubbie is the most confident and is happy to dart through an open door to see what is on the other side. Chubby watches him and clearly gains her confidence from him, although whilst on the sofa or close by she has adjusted extremely well.

I free feed the dogs here in the house and he comfortably eats amongst them with no sign of aggression or anything, since the food is in a big tub, he often lies on the kibble, this is from when he was a small puppy and he would climb in to eat the kibble. Obviously with a normal size dog bowl he wouldn't be able to do this.

We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks.

Chubby is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
