MILO was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas with 4 siblings (we presume) CHIP, PRINCE , PIXIE in May 2018. We was not aware that the 4 dogs were semi-feral and couldn't be handled. All four dogs were put in communal areas with other dogs where they could learn to trust, and gain confidence and hopefully trust.
Due to the fact there is only one person running the rescue, trying to socialize the dogs has been an impossible task. They have come a long way in that they will come for treats, they are a relaxed and happy playing, eating, sleeping and hanging out with the other dogs - they are great around the house and come and go as they please through the dog door - however, they are still very shy/fearful of being handled - they want it but since there has not been able to be any one on one work they have not transitioned as we wanted to them being happy, comfortable lap pets.
Milo does show potential in that he will come and take a treat from my knee or out of my hand, but if I go to approach him he will run off. We are looking for a family who is happy to take into their homes and give him time to adjust and let him build and gain trust in his time- with not living with 20 other dogs this will be a lot more achievable but time and patience is obviously needed.
The dogs are project dogs for sure and they will need a home with a fenced back yard and a family who truly understands that they will need time to adjust and may, or may not never be super cuddly dogs - although I believe they are all wanting it. They will need to be transported in a crate since they won't be handled and the meet and greet would be with them in a crate also. None of the dogs have been aggressive, but I have not put them in a position where they have been so fearful their only option would be to bite. They would most likely transition a lot easier and quicker with either one of their friends or another family dog.
MILO has come a long way and as you will see in the video's he is very food motivated and does at times like to come and lie close by me, watching what I am doing, and of course hoping for food. I do think in a quieter environment where he can build that trust he will be a great family dog - he can't be handled as mentioned so it is going to take a family with a lot of patience and understanding.
All dogs are fully vetted, spayed/neutured, rabies, core vaccines, dewormed, monthly preventatives, micro-chipped and heartworm tested negative.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website by clicking the following link to complete and submit our adoption application https://www.giveadogahome-sanantonio.org/forms/form?formid=5838
Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
