HiNui was saved from the illegal meat trade in China. She is one of three of our first saved dogs from this horrific life and we hope to be able to continue to save more. Working with rescue's in China, we pay to get these dogs vetted, tested, quarantined and all other requirements to import them to the safety of the rescue in Sebec, Maine. The adoption fee for our dogs we save from China is $1,500 and covers the costs we incur to save this precious souls.
HiNui is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm, tick-disease and screw worm tested negative. She has been de-wormed, microchiped and received any necessary monthly preventatives. She has an estimated date of birth of 3rd January 2017. HiNui arrived in the United States on 24th March 2018.
HiNui when we first took her out of the crate at the airport was somewhat stressed, clearly not knowing what was going on or happening, but with lots of cuddles and reassurance she settled down, although she does still have a little anxiety, but nothing major just a little insecurity which has diminished over the time she has been her. So, we do expect her to have some anxiety when she leaves the safety of the rescue and her friends and so this must be taken into consideration. She must have a caring family that has the time and patience to let her feel secure. It is nothing major, but definitely we want to make her new family aware of.
After she settled HiNu has adapted wonderfully to her new life in the United States, she is great with other dogs, she absolutely loves to play and wrestle and chase her Chinese and American canine friends. She is great with the pups and is totally loving and affectionate with all humans that she meets.
HiNui walks ok on the leash, although he does zig-zag a lot which is just because she has not had much practice. She rides wonderfully in the car and does use the dog door to go outside to do her business. It is important to expect accidents as she will once again be having a huge transition in her life.
In May 2018 I took HiNui to the vets to have her hips checked out, she ran like she had hip dyspasia and I wanted to check to see if she needed the FHO surgery. To my surprise the x-rays showed that
her hips are in pretty good shape, as in their is no displasia or arthiritis, HOWEVER, they are very badly placed, as in they are very loose and don't sit well into the sockets, which is why when she is running and playing her back end looks wobbly - basically because it is! X-rays can be seen in the photo's and will be emailed to the family adopting her to pass on to their vet.
So.... no need for surgery, no need for anything at the moment, she might need surgery in 6-7 years old, she most likely will get arthiritis, which is common in older dogs anyway and old people. Since she is still young and growing her body is already producing all the supplements that we would give her, so for now - she is as she is. At least we know. Her knee's look good so nothing to worry about there either.
She was very nervous going to the vets and in the car, this poor girl is so hyper, she was in a cage for all her life and she must have just paced and paced and paced, it is as if she can't slow down or stop - although she is getting better and with the right family she will overtime come to realise that she can relax.
In the car I have an elevated dog bed, which was very kindly donated, i leave it in the car as can use as a stretcher if ever needed, but most dogs will lie on top of it as they are obviously a little higher up - HiNiu on the way home, tried to hide under it - bless her. I wish I had time to take her out every day in the car to get her used to going places and start to feel safe and confident.
She does need an active family that can tire her out and let her relax. She is constantly playing and chasing and wrestling, which is good as she is so happy and having so much fun.
It is hard to think and sickening to do so, that she would have been sold for human consumption, possibly skinned and boiled alive before eaten.... so glad we saved her, she is beautiful inside out.
HiNui is a young, high energy girl who needs guidance and training and it is important that she has a family that understands this and has the time and patience to work with her. It is important that they spend time as a family to work on training, setting boundaries and learning each others personality and body language. It is also important to remember that when taking her to new places, caution must be taken to make sure she feels safe and secure, we do not know if any kinds of noises scare her.
HiNui is a social girl and has never shown any kind of aggression at all, she lives, eats and sleeps with lots of other dogs and puppies and enjoys the company and so a family with another dog would be great, but if not then it is important that he gets to play and interact with other dogs throughout her life. We do NOT recommend dog parks for several months until a bond and trust and knowing to read his body language has been gained. We do not have cats at the rescue so we cannot comment on how she would be around them, she is very curious and playful and so I would expect chasing at a minimum.
HiNui is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue which is located in Sebec, Maine, for an adoption fee of $1,500. This fee covers the costs incurred by the rescue to save this precious soul and get her to the US. The fee is not negotiable. We post in other states and in Canada to ensure our saved dogs get as much exposure as possible and the perfect families are found.
Adoptive families MUST travel to the rescue in Sebec, Maine to meet HiNui and if all goes well, take her home with them to start their new wonderful life.
HiNui's story from her Chinese Rescue Family
My name is HuNiu.
I
t was given by my rescuer since my
first owner didn’t give me a name and. The name is so cute and cool at the same time; “Hu” means tiger and “Niu” refers to girls~
I really love it.
I lived in TianJing before I came to the US. My first owner was a butcher. He never liked me. I guess it was because I cried too much…but I was just too hungry and that was me begging him for food and wáter. He never understood me and maybe that’s why he beated me so hard and so often…
I lived by the trash pile of the slaughter house. I barely have any food besides some left over bones. I had no water. I was wishing for the raindrop everyday which was my own way to survive.
I was so sick too. My ear got a terrible
infection
but no one had ever cared about me. It was so much pain and I cried all the time when I couldn’t withstand it.
I wanted to run. But I was tied up by
an iron chain and I couldn’t move more than several inches far.
I was so so lucky and grateful to be found by my rescuer who saved my life. She talked many many times with the butcher and finally persuaded him to release me. She brought me to the hospital, cued me and cared for me. It was her dream to see me getting accepted by a new family. She told me I won’t ever be adopted in China since I am already an adult and I am a German Shepherd (which in China they don’t allow). That’s why I am here, in the US, looking and waiting, with her dream.
Rescuer QingQing:
Huniu was rescued in March 20th 2017. Her living condition was so heart-breaking and unbelievable. She has really terrible ear mites and it took us so long to completely cue it. She is such a lovely girl with a soft and tender heart. She didn’t lose faith in life after all she had experienced and she has been waiting so long for love and acceptance.
