ARIES was saved from one of the shelters we work with in Texas with his sister who has since been adopted. He is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 6 June 2017 and weighs around 50 pounds.  ARIES has been listed as a Golden Retriever mix. There is no way for us to know what breed he is, so it is important that you decide what breed you think he is.

ARIES was adopted out when he was around 4 months and went to live with a family in CT. Sadly this has not worked out, being a puppy and needing a lot of time, attention and guidance, his family realized they didn't have that to give him and so on 5th February was returned to his temporary foster family in CT until we can get him transport back up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.

Whilst with his family ARIES became disruptive, chewing up the sofa, this of course happens often with dogs and pups that are bored and unsupervised and it is acknowledged was not his fault. He became possessive of his toys and will growl if the other dog or family went near him when he had toys. He was also crated during the day whilst the family was at work and then at night whilst they were in bed. The family did have a cat that they say he would chase and believe he would not be good with cats.

It is clear that ARIES didn't get enough exercise, training or attention that a young pup needed. Since he has been back with his temporary foster mum, who has a German Shepherd, Aries has been fine. He gets lots of playtime and mental stimulation. Major, the GSD is keeping him in check and his foster mum can easily go up and remove his toys, treats or food.

ARIES is a smart boy, who has a lot of energy and so needs a lot of mental and physical exercise and stimulation. We are looking for an active family who are alpha personalities who will keep Aries in check, should he think he can be possessive, who can teach and guide him in manners and acceptable behaviour. In the two months that Aries was here at the rescue when we first saved him, he never showed any negative behaviour and was great with all the to other dogs, he was never possessive over food, treats, or toys. When he was with his temporary foster family he also showed no negative signs, so we believe this was just the wrong home and environment for him, but we want to be sure families are aware of how he did behave.

We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks.

ARIES is young and high energy and so a family with an active lifestyle is a must. He is going to be a large dog and this must be taken into consideration. He would benefit from lots of road trips and adventures, hiking, trips to the lake, the beach and anywhere that he can burn off some of his energy and enjoy the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He will need a family that understands the importance of training and we encourage all families to work on basic and advanced training as a family so that boundaries and expectations can be set and both ARIES and his humans can learn each others body language and personalities and form a stronger bond and understanding of each other. He has not had a collar or leash on and so leash training will definitely need to be worked upon. A family that understands his initial caution of people and new places, that will help him develop his confidence and trust.

ARIES is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

ARIES is located with a foster family in CT until we can get him transport up to the rescue in Sebec, Maine . We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor.
