PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS.

APOLLO  was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. APOLLO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of  25 December 2014 and weighs around 10 pounds.  We guess the breed, by how the dog looks, so really what you think he looks like is what he most likely is!

APOLLO is very shy and nervous initially around humans, but by giving him time to decompress and become aware of his surroundings he soon warms up. He is very sweet and affectionate. He has an under-bite that doesn't seem to cause him any problems, he eats and drinks fine. After a week of being at the rescue, he will follow me around and jump up on the chair to ensure he gets some love and attention, he is still a little cautious but each day is getting more and more confident. I feel living with a family that has the time to dedicate to him, he will learn to trust and feel safe and secure very quickly.

He would make a great lap-dog as he just wants to be loved, something it doesn't appear he has experienced much of during his life so far. APOLLO once he feels safe is the kind of boy that would love to go where you go, to hang out in the garden, or go on a road-trip or go for a nice long walk exploring the sights, smells and sounds the world has to offer. He would make a great companion and I know would enjoy having a companion to call his own.

APOLLO uses the dog door to go outside, although I am not sure he would know to let you know he wants to go out, so it is best to expect a few accidents and work with him on letting you know he wants to go out. This might be something he already knows, having dog doors it is something he never needs to do, so I cannot say for sure. He gets on great with the other dogs, although tends to play outside with the smaller dogs, inside he is generally pretty quiet, still getting used to his new temporary surroundings.  We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them.

APOLLO would benefit from a family that is familiar with the toy/small breed dog, who understands their needs and potential medical issues as they get older and be in a position to ensure they get all that they need to live a long, happy, loved, safe, healthy life.He would need a family that has time to spend working with him on basic and advanced obedience training. Working with him as a family so both APOLLO and his humans can learn each other's body language, expectations and boundaries. Small dogs do tend to have teeth issues so it is almost a guarantee that they will need dental care throughout their life. This is not an inexpensive treatment.

APOLLO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500.

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

APOLLO is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
