SALLY is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm & tick disease tested negative (4dx), de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 25 May 2015 and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighed around 68 pounds.

I was contacted by a high kill shelter in Texas asking if I would take SALLY into rescue, she was very anxious and stressed in the shelter, constantly jumping up and down in her kennel and she had lost a significant amount of weight and her time to be kept alive was running out.

SALLY as you can see in the pictures, does need to gain a good amount of weight, but here at the rescue she is eating well and is on natural immune support supplements to help her. SALLY is great with other dogs of all ages and sizes and is generally a happy-go-lucky girl. She loves to run and chase and wrestle with the other dogs. We do NOT have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would behave around cats.

She is very friendly and affectionate and has not shown any signs of fear or aggression to anyone. SALLY does walk on a leash but practice is needed as she does tend to pull and go all over, but with lots of lovely walks and guidance she will soon improve and enjoy her walks. Although she has been estimated to be around 18 months she is still very puppy and has that goofiness as if she is still growing into her body.

The first few days at the rescue I had to physically bring SALLY indoors, she is obviously used to being an outside dog and not being allowed inside. Since I have dog doors at the house, I had her sleeping with me so I could be sure that she didn't sneak back outside and she snuggled up and settled right down - clearly enjoying the love and affection she had not had much, if any of.

​We have dog doors in the house and SALLY uses them for the most part, but does still have the odd accident. It is important for her new family to understand that this beautiful girl is still learning and is going through lots of lifestyle changes and will take time to adjust and when she goes to live with her new family, this will yet again be another change, so it is important to expect accidents until she learns her new routine and schedule and her family must be patient and be prepared to work with her. She might be great and have no problems, but it is best to expect them and be pleasantly surprised if she does well.

SALLY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with her on her obedience and manners, who would take her on adventures and road trips and let her explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She would benefit from a family that has the time to work with her on her basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both SALLY and her humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed. SALLY is very smart and responsive and I believe training would be relatively easy and fun.

SALLY is a great girl who deserves the best in life, she has so much love and fun to offer.

SALLY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

SALLY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
