JAMESON is a chihuahua mix who is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He has a date of birth or approx 29 December 2013 and weighs approximately 15-20 pounds.

JAMESON was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where he was fortunate to have been a staff favourite and managed to be kept alive for 9 months, when normally these dogs get 3 days to be saved. It was reported that JAMESON when first got taken in to the shelter was very scared and wouldn't let anyone approach him, this is most likely from him being abused, but an employee/volunteer made it her mission to work with him and was able to take him out to walks to the park, sit on her lap, lavish her with kisses and play with his favourite toy, a tennis ball.  also loves squeaky toys, is great when having a bath and is ok having his nails trimmed.  He can be a little snappy when he is unsure of people, but with the right approach he soon warms up and his guard is dropped.

When JAMESON arrived at the rescue in Sebec, he was a little overwhelmed and he just found a quite space and took in all that was going on. When I approached him, he was a little growly, but I turned sides and moved my hand slowly to him and gently stoked her face. He soon started to relax and each time I approached him he became less nervous. The first 2 days he basically kept himself to himself watching me and the other dogs. On day 3, totally out of the blue, he came bounding across the room, jumped up on the chair, pushed his head under my arm, wiggled round to present his belly to me and snuggled up, making lots of happy dog sounds.

Since then he has really came out of his shell. He LOVES to play with tennis balls and will see one and pounce on it and then play. He discovered that once he could find his balance on top of the sofa he could sit and watch the squirrels and birds feeding on the front porch. This kept him amused for a good few hours.

JAMESON is a total love bug, although when he is close by me, which he tries to be a lot of the time, he does get a little growly in a protective way. I tell him "NO" and he does stop and then I make sure that I let the dogs he didn't want to come close, come and get some love and then I give him some love too. Just by using this method he has improved, I think with him being at the shelter for so long, he wants all the attention for himself, which no one can blame him for.

I think JAMESON would be ok either as an only dog, or with another dog, as long as the family understood he may initially have some jealousy, but I do believe this is an easy fix, more so with his own family.

JAMESON has been using the dog door to go outside when needed. He is great with kids, as long as he is familiar with them and of course as with all animals and kids, they should not be left unsupervised. He has not been exposed to cats since we do not have any at the rescue, but when he was watching the squirrels from the window, he was just sat calmly watching them.

We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!

JAMESON is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $250. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious fun loving boy a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

JAMESON is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
