PLEASE ENSURE YOU READ ALL THE INFORMATION PROVIDED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT PIPER, HER LOCATION AND ADOPTION OPTIONS.
PIPER is an America Stafford-shire Terrier mix who is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heart-worm tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 8th January 2016 and weighs approximately 20 pounds.
PIPER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where she had been adopted and returned FOUR times. This poor girl, through no fault of her own was not given the chance by a family that has the time and understanding to work with her.
PIPER is a great girl, she is extremely affectionate, desperate to please and is very responsive. She does get very excited, is a high energy girl, with little manners and does tend to mouth. She also has slight food aggression.
When PIPER first got to the rescue she would charge across the room and just jump on the sofa or chair, no matter if I was sat on it or not, she is an expert counter surfer and does mouth a lot. Mouthing is obviously a concern since her breed is labelled as being aggressive so any kind of mouthing will be seen as aggression, when all it is, is that she has not been taught that it is not acceptable.
PIPER is learning pretty quickly to not charge and jump on the sofa, I correct her when she mouths and she is learning that growling and guarding the food is not tolerated. I free feed at the rescue and not all dogs are used to sharing their food, so this is a big learning curve for them, but it doesn't generally take them long to learn and understand that there is no need to guard the food, but it is something that should be noted and care taken when in her new home.
She has never shown any aggression towards humans, she is a complete love bug, who is extremely responsive and I think with one on one training and time, she will quickly learn basic and advanced obedience and learn how to behave, she just has never been taught.
As mentioned PIPER is very high energy and she needs to be with an active family who is able to provide a release for not just physical exercise but mental exercise. A tired mind is equally important as a tired body. I think PIPER would excel at sporting games like agility, she would make an awesome running / hiking partner, or anything that her humans are involved in. Without the energy release she is going to get frustrated and up to mischief and thus problems will occur.
PIPER is great with kids, small kids would need to be watched they don't get knocked over when she is running around, but if she did knock them over it would be an accident. Of course children, as with all dogs need to be supervised and understand that dogs are not toys and to be given their own space and let alone when they don't want to play.
PIPER is great with other dogs and loves to chase and wrestle with them of all ages and sizes.
With an active family who has time, patience and the love to give this girl she will make an awesome new family member. She needs someone who understands the breed and how people react towards them. A family that will never move to a state or city or home that bans or treats dogs in a negative way and appreciate and respect that not every one likes the breed.
PIPER has a lot to give her family in lover, affection, fun and making lots of wonderful memories. She is waiting patiently for her perfect family to find her.
We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!
We do not have cats at the rescue so we are unable to say how any of our dogs would react around cats.
PIPER is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $250. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious stunning girl a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

hasPIPER is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
