CHUBBs-Girl was saved from Maui Humane Society in Hawaii. Since Hawaii is an Island they have limited resources for adoption and so we have partnered with them to help find homes for their precious souls.

CHUBB is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, heartworm/tick tested negative. She is on monthly prevention, microchipped, has an estimated date of birth of 17 May 2019 and weighs around 26 pounds.

CHUBBs was adopted on 23rd August, but has been struggling to adapt with the high energy level in the house of several children whom she is fearful of. She took over a month to get comfortable with the man in the house and only truly trusted the lady, who was the one who came to pick her up.

CHUBBs had a rough life in Hawaii living on the streets, she appears to have had pups and ending up in the shelter twice, both times in pretty rough shape. Whilst at the rescue she is a total love bug, has been great with all the other dogs, loves to be up on the bed and get lots of love and attention.

Chubb's also spent a few weeks with a foster family who had other dogs, took her on lots of adventures and met people and went on lots of great adventures - this is what her temporary foster mum said about her:

This girl is super smart and so easy to train. I don’t have official training but I have taught my dogs to be off leash and stay with me and on our property. Chubb's likes messing with my rooster and chickens but never to attack to hurt, I haven’t seen a ounce of meanness from her yet. Hopefully a family with some energetic knowledgeable kids adopts her!

We are looking for an active family, she does have short legs, but they work and her breed mix, are hunting breeds and they are high energy dogs. As much as we all like to be coach potatoes, smart, energetic breeds have to have their brains challenged and their energy burnt off. We are looking for a family that has more of a quiet life inside, whilst being sure that they work with this sweet girl to expose her to different situations, environments and such to build her confidence. She loves to ride in the car and to do anything with her person/people. 

Chubb's is available for adoption from Give a Dog a Home Rescue in Sebec, Maine for an adoption fee of $550. CHUBBS was first taken into the shelter when she was just 3 months old, in August 2019 covered in flea dirt, scabs, sores all over her body and her hair matted.   She was cleaned up and treated and we can only presume was adopted. Sadly this sweet girl did not have a life that was kind to her and she was back in the shelter on 15th June 2022 in similar condition to when she was first there. She has thinning hair and thickened skin and scabbing on her back legs and tail area, tests came back that she had a bad yeast infection, scabbing ears and other issues. She has been treated for all and has been doing great. She still has a week or so left of her medication and does require medicated baths. She is on Apoquel to help with her itching and discomfort and this could possibly be a medication that she needs for a good while, some dogs are prescribed this long-term. she has also been given Trazadone, to help with fear, stress and anxiety - it appears this can be around fireworks and some possible separation anxiety. She was taken off this medication, but due to the stress of the big move and transition was given some to be used if needed. This is something else an adopter must be aware of. It is not recommended that dogs are kept on this medication and all steps must be taken to help her adjust to environments, noises and such that make her fearful or uneasy. We would expect families to research and work with her so that she doesn't need any medications in the long term and only use as a very last resort. She also looks like she has had at least one litter of pups.

Although this poor girl has been through hell, her personality is a happy, confident, fun, loving girl - after just being at the rescue for 10 minutes she was running and playing, eagerly meeting the other dogs, she was a little bit too excitable around the cats, who didn't appreciate her barking at them, but at the moment she is on sensory over-load. Although she hasn't attacked the cats and it has been more of a curious, fun, playful chase and bark, I wouldn't trust her in a room alone with them. This of course is just after 4 hours of being here so over the day as she settles in, that could change.

Chubbs is a very sweet, loving girl, she will most likely have a few issues with separation anxiety so she needs to go to a family that will give her all the love, security and a home that she deserves, but be willing to work with her and get her used to being on her own for short periods, to help alleviate that and make her much more comfortable and happier altogether.

Although a small dog she is active and we are looking for an active family, she needs to go on lots of walks, hikes, adventures to give her the healthy life, mentally and physically to full-fill all her needs. She is only 3 and so needs this lifestyle for at least another 5-6 years, before she will be ready to slow down.

The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there are a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food rating. There have not been issues with eating any of the varying foods. It is important that you do your research on the ingredients and speak to your vet or a nutritionist on grain vs grain free!

​You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3-month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure.

ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx. 8 miles) and approx. 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
