MIA was saved back in April 2021 from a high kill shelter in Texas. After arriving in Maine as a 5 month old pup, she was adopted on 6 May 2021. Sadly an email was received from the family stating that she was not a good fit and on 20 December 2021 she was returned to the rescue.
MIA is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, monthly preventatives, de-wormed, microchipped with 24PetWatch, weighs around 50 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 16 December 2020.
We cannot say for sure what breed she is, so we expect families to do their own research on her look and size and decide what breed you think she is and if you have the lifestyle suitable for her needs.
Update January 2022
MIA has been back at the rescue now for coming up to 3 weeks (on 4 Jan 2022) and has settled in great. Initially she was confused and upset, but she had lots of friends to make with the other dogs and after learning how to behave with them and all the different personalities she has done great. She is very responsive and will stop when I tell her to, although she charges around with the dogs, for the most part that is outside and when they come inside, other than wrestling they are generally just hanging out and recharging their batteries.
MIA loves to sleep on the bed and be as close as she can. Although she does get down when told, but gives me that heartbroken look lol. she did have a few accidents when she first got back, but that is to be expected and soon got into the routine and used to going in and out when she wants, through the dog door.
MIA is curious with the cats and she does get up close. She has never tried to pounce on them and does give them respect. The cats have never felt they needed to swat her, but they also can get out of the way if they need. If a cat runs across the floor, she will get up to chase - along with all the other dogs - but again is very responsive when told no.
MIA is a very sweet, loving girl. She is high energy and definitely needs a family that is active and is going to get her on walks, hikes, treks and such. Just playing in the back yard for her is not enough, she needs the mental stimulation as well as the physical exercise. She is very well behaved and responsive to me. However, we have a mutual respect that families she immediately work on accomplishing. Dogs want to please and when they respect you, they will do anything for you. She also knows what is accepted here and what is right and wrong.
I believe MIA would make a great family pet. She is young and so will feed of any excitement, so if kids are running around, it is natural that she wants to join in. If this is not working out, then she should be moved to a different room, or taken for a walk when there is too much excitement - which is basically standard for all dogs.
December 2021
MIA's family said that she is great with the mum, but will charge and plow the small children down, stepping all over them, she can be aggressive with men, she does chew and so is crated when the family is not home and she will pounce after the cats. They said she is house-trained and does at times get car sick. When MIA was returned she was a little growly with me, but she was scared and unsure what was going on, feeling the upset with her mum.
MIA was brought up to the house and was given time to check everywhere out, then she was introduced to a few of the young dogs her age, and after the initial getting to know each other changed from a nervous girl, into a happy, excited girl. She did jump over a short gate I have, which indicated that she has no manners and respect for boundaries. After spending time with the younger dogs and being outside to run and burn off some energy, she met the rest of the dogs and did great.
At the time of writing this bio, MIA has been back at the rescue a few hours and has settled in great considering the emotional turmoil she has been through. We are looking for an active family who can take her on long walks, treks, hikes, trips to the lake, the beach and lots of adventures. She is an intelligent girl and needs as much mental stimulation as she does physical exercise. She needs basic training and definitely needs to learn boundaries, but just from her being here a short time, she has been responsive and I feel with consistent, constructive training she will be a great girl, who is well mannered and respectful. I cannot say anything about the men issue, but when I asked her family I was told she was ok with the dad, but didn't have any interest in any other men that came to the house, but would sometimes growl at them. So this is something that might need to be worked on, just learning to trust and having slow introductions is important.
We was told that MIA would pounce on the cats, I am guessing that was her again being playful and not respectful so if a family has cats, a lot of work and definitely separate living areas would be needed. Although her family said she is totally house trained, we ask that families expect and be prepared for accidents, since it is a stressful time moving from home to home and dogs do not know what we expect from them, until they are shown and taught, which can take time.
You MUST understand that dogs need time to decompress and adapt to their new environment and home. It is a HUGE transition they make from the kill shelter, being vetted, on transport for 3 days and arriving in Maine where the temperature and such is very different to what they have only known. In rescue there is what is known as the "3 Point Rule" Days 1-3 your dog is stressed, anxious, confused as to where they are now. Weeks 1-3 your dog is adjusting, settling in, learning things. At the 3 month point, your dog understands they are home, and have built up a trusting relationship where they feel loved and secure.
The rescue buys food in bulk, by the truck load and there is a variety of brands and flavours. None of the food given is less than a 4* food. There has not had been issues with eating any of the varying food.
MIA is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $300
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas, or other locations, countries to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food, general day to day cost of running a brick and mortar rescue and anything else that is needed.
Canadian families must confirm with the border that they are able to cross and have the required vaccines, documentation and anything else needed to enter the US. Also it is important to know that Canadian Customs charge 15% taxes on the adoption when you return into Canada.

ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
