MAX-Weim came back to the rescue on October 19th due to his owner who adopted him in August 2016 having to move and not being able to take him with him. Sadly for MAX that is the reason he ended up at the rescue in 2016 to begin with, his then owner was moving and couldn't take him.
We are looking for a committed family to take on Max who is not going to give up on him because they move, if they move they will promise to take him with them.

When MAX was first surrendered to the rescue back in 2016, he had a knee injury diagnosed as a meniscal injury, the first owners vet and the adopters vet apparently stated that surgery would not benefit Max with him being so big and active, the pain, discomfort and stress of surgery, with the prognosis that it will most likely be injured again is not worth it. MAX does well, but it is recommended that his new family monitor closely and work with their vet to give pain / inflammation management if and when MAX seems to be in discomfort. Also monitoring his exercise will help prevent too much strain on his knee.

MAX also had some lumps on his back and leg, these were benign and when he returned to the rescue we had them removed and he has since all healed and is doing great.

MAX has been back at the rescue for over a month now, having had several applications and families approved only for them to change their mind, so we are looking for a family to really think about the commitment of adoption before submitting the application not waste the rescue;s, their;s or their references time. We are looking for a family that is experienced with the Weimaraner or similar breed as they can be stubborn if they have no respect for their owners, they are active and are strong. Since MAX is going to be able to enjoy the full extent of activity that he would like it is important that he get lots of mental stimulation and interaction to challenge his brain.

MAX has been through a lot and I'm sure suffers some kind of abandonment issues thanks to the humans that backed out on their commitment to him, so we are looking for that special family who has the time, the lifestyle, the knowledge and means to give him the life he deserves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MAX is a purebred Weimaraner, with AKC paper, although he was never registered. He is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, Lyme vaccine, heart-worm an tick disease tested negative, de-wormed and micro-chipped. He has a date of birth of 4th October 2012 and weighs 85.00 pounds.

MAX does have an old injury to his rear knee on his left leg, which doesn't allow him to do strenuous or excessive exercise, general day to day walks and playing he is fine, but he is not going to be a working or running dog. He also needs a big comfy bed to lie on to ensure their is no discomfort. Joint supplements are also required for the rest of his life.

MAX has had some basic training and knows a selection of commands, and he understand hand signals for the command down and stay. He enjoys playing fetch and tug of war. He is a bundle of energy and the energy needs to be released with caution to his knee as mentioned above.

MAX is great with other dogs and with proper introduction has been good with cats also. He does have prey drive with squirrels and rabbits so ensuring he is good with the family cat is extremely important. MAX is very affectionate and likes to be near his humans, he give  kisses and wags his body when he wants to greet people. MAX is good with children, but due to his size and strength it is advisable that he is not left alone playing with small children in case he accidentally knocks them over.

MAX would benefit a family that will advance his training to keep his intelligent brain active. Although an injured knee, he still needs a good level of exercise and his injury doesn't slow him down, it is up to the family to be responsible and learn his tolerance level and not let him over do things. He would love to go on adventures and explore the sights, sounds and smells that the world has to offer.

MAX is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this strong, handsome boy a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
