COBRA  was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. She was tested positive for heartworm disease and so was staying with a foster family during and after treatment. She has now tested negative and so is ready for her forever family.COBRA is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, as mentioned heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 7 June 2015 and at the time of rescue at the end of September 2018 weighed around 68.30 pounds. She is listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

COBRA was living in Texas for a few months with a foster family whilst having her heartworm treatment. She lived with several other dogs and was great with them all. Her foster family said that she is very affectionate, has the typical GSD trait of wanting to be wherever her family was and enjoys to snuggle and hang out. She did climb and escape over a chain link fence and so it is important to ensure that your property is secure. She does destroy soft toys, which is again common for dogs, but also dangerous and she did eat a sock. So, it is important that she be monitored if she can get to things.

When Cobra arrived at the rescue we was informed she was very scared and that was apparent when I met her. Another foster dog that she had been living with was supposed to come on the same transport, which would have made her transition a lot easier, less stressful and scary, but unfortunately he didn't make the transport. I brought her over to the house to stay with me, my dogs and some other rescue dogs and she has kept herself to herself, clearly affected by all that has gone on. She didn't eat for a few days, and stayed in the back room. After almost a week, she is now starting to relax a little more and come into the main room.

The rescue is busy with a lot of dogs and although she was living with a few other dogs, being taken away from the family has really hit her hard. She has not tried to escape at all and is eating and drinking, but it would be beneficial for her to be with an active family that can take her out on walks and adventures and build a bond and trust.

When feeling herself, cobra She has a lot of energy and so she will need an active family. Someone who understands the importance of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. She rides good in the car. She is used to being with other dogs so a family with another dog would be great, however, if that is not the case, then play-dates with other dogs would be extremely beneficial for her. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how she would be near or around them. 

Cobra needs an understanding family who will give her the time and space and affection to adjust to her new home. When she is getting more attention I do feel that the transition will be quick and not stressful for her at all. An active family and one that will keep her mind stimulated and challenged is what she needs. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl.  She is great with humans and although I have not seen her with children, her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours.

All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

ALL Dogs are LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE.  We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
