MOOSE
was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. Moose is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 21 November 2017 and at the time of rescue at the end of September 2018 weighed around 56.40 pounds. He is liver coloured. He is listed as a German Shepherd Dog. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
Moose is at that young, goofy age where he is growing into his body and can be funny and floppy when running around. Although he is goofy and does jump up and needs to learn manners he is a gentle. He does use the dog door to go out to do his business or enjoy the fresh air in his run. I do not know if he would let you know he needs to go out since he has 24/7 access to the outside, but he is extremely smart and do not think it would take long to learn. He is great with other dogs and is happy to run around chasing and wrestling. He has not shown any sign of aggression at all.
He is a young boy and has a lot of energy and so he will need an active family. Someone who understands the importance of mental stimulation as well as physical exercise. As with all rescue's he needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with him themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other. He rides good in the car. He gets on good with other dogs so a family with another dog would be great, however, if that is not the case, then play-dates with other dogs would be extremely beneficial for him. We do not have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would be near or around them.
Moose needs an active family and one that will keep his mind stimulated and challenged. Lots of hikes and adventures, training tricks, or agility, dock diving or other fun, active, stimulating activities would be perfect for this girl. He is great with humans and although I have not seen him with children, his demeanor and personality I have no doubt that he would be great with them and I am sure they could keep each other entertained for many hours.
All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.
