ASTA was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas where dogs have just 3 dogs to be saved. ASTA is spayed, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, heartworm tested negative, and micro-chipped. She has an estimated date of birth of 14 September 2015 and at the time of rescue at the end of September 2018 weighed around 20 pounds. She is listed as a Miniature Schnauzer mix. We have no way of knowing the exact breed, it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.
ASTA is in need of a good groom, she has her back end shaved down, but the front and her head has been left. I can only imagine she was shaved for surgery due to severe matting. I am hoping to find a volunteer to come and shave her down before adoption, but it would be best to expect to need to get her groomed after adoption in case I have not been able to achieve this.
ASTA is a great girl she is very friendly and affectionate. She is great with other dogs, sharing a large kennel with two brothers, Ethan and Evan. She is a social girl and likes to explore on her time out of the kennel. Always happy to see you, looking up and wagging her tail.
She needs an active family, I have not seen her with children, but her demeanor and personality I have no doubt that she would be great with them and a lot of fun too. As with all rescue's she needs guidance and training and we recommend families go through at least the basics of training with her themselves so that boundaries, personalities and body language can be learned from each other.
She is going to need a family that understands the need to keep on top of her being groomed, so she does not have to endure the mess she is currently in again. She is young and still active and so a family that goes on adventures is preferred.
She has never shown any kind of aggression at all, as mentioned she lives, eats and sleeps with two other dogs and enjoys the company and so a family with another dog would be great, but if not then it is important that she gets to play and interact with other dogs throughout her life. We do NOT recommend dog parks for several months until a bond and trust and knowing to read his body language has been gained.
We do NOT have cats or livestock at the rescue so cannot comment on how she will be near or around them. She does use the dog door in the kennels and so I would suspect that she is almost house-trained. She is most likely not going to know how to let you know that she wants to go out.
All dogs (except dogs saved from China) are available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
