CHESTER was saved from a high kill shelter in Texas, where dogs generally have just 3 days to be saved before they are killed for space. CHESTER is neutered, core vaccines, rabies, de-wormed, tested heartworm negative, has had monthly preventatives and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 21 May 2016 and weighs around 9.80 pounds. He has been listed as a Maltese/Poodle Mix.  We have no way of knowing the exact breed, so it is up to individuals to decide what breed they think is most likely.

When Chester arrived at the rescue he had a problem with his eyeball that was painful. He was taken to the vets and it was diagnosed he had a ruptured eyeball and scheduled for surgery the next day to have his eyeball removed. His coat was shaved down as it was severely matted and covered in burrs. He spent the next several days at the vets recovering, but then came down with a upper respiratory infection that was rather serious.

After lots of medications, fluids and care this tough little boy defeated all odds and came through it. When Chester walked he kicks his back legs out so when he was first at the vets I had asked for a check of his legs. X-rays were taken and no injury was seen. The vet suggested he had most likely be kept in a small confined space and as he was growing his muscles most likely didn't develop properly and so he has a goofy little walk. With time and being here at the rescue with all the dogs is good for him as he will get plenty of exercise.

Chester having been at the rescue now for 2 months (time of writing August 2018) has done amazing, for all that precious little boy has been through he has shown his fighting spirit. He has fully recovered and does fantastic just having one eye. He gets around with his little funky walk that has improved a little and he will run and play with the dogs, he has built up strength in that he can jump up on the chair or sofa, although he does build up some momentum before doing so. He loves to talk, he loves to be close by, he doesn't bark for no reason, but does enjoy a conversation and will join in when the others are all barking or singing.

He is great with other dogs, but does like to think he is in charge and is often trying to boss my 120 pound German Shepherds around who just tolerate him and make him think he is the boss.

Chester is desperate for a family that will let him cuddle up to them, who will take him on adventures with plenty of exercise to keep building up the muscles in this back legs and to let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer.

He needs a family that is dedicated to taking care of his coat with regular brushing and grooming as and when needed.

He has the biggest personality for a boy that has suffered and endured so much.

We do not recommend dog parks for several weeks, if not months, it is so very important for families and dogs to form a strong bond and get to know each other before exposing them to the potential dangers of dog parks. Although all GaDaH dogs are very well socialized with other dogs, lots of other dogs have not had the benefit of this socialization and do not always know how to play and act with other dogs. You also do not know the control the other families have over their dogs and you should always have a good recall for your adopted dog before going to dog parks.

Chester is available for adoption for an adoption fee of $550. Canadian adopters need to know that customs charge 15% taxes when entering into Canada. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

CHESTER is LOCATED AT THE RESCUE IN SEBEC, MAINE.  We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations  and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
