DUSTY was saved from a shelter in Texas. She has had rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. She has been estimated date of birth of 22 March 2016 and weighs around 35 pounds. She is listed as a Schnauzer / Cattle dog mix. We have no idea what true breed she is and it is up to you to decide what you think she is. DUSTY was nursing 4 puppies when we saved her, but after her puppies were weaned and she had time to adjust she was spayed and is now ready for her own forever home.
DUSTY is good mum with her puppies and also helps the other mum dogs with their puppies. The pups are all over 3 months now and she is enjoying not having the responsibility, but still keeps an eye on them and will keep them in check as and when needed.
DUSTY is a tough girl and will happily put any of t
he dogs in their place if they step out of line, no matter what breed or what size. She loves to play chill out and relax and will at times enjoy playing with the toys or chewing on the cow hooves. She still plays with her puppies and enjoys their playfulness.
DUSTY is very affectionate and will lie close to wherever I am. She will climb on the bed and snuggle and loves to be close getting her ears scratched and belly rubbed. She is gentle and loving, but fun and spunky. She rides great in the car and walks nicely on the leash. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how she would be around them.
DUSTY is responsive, but she is in need of basic and advanced obedience training. We recommend this is done with the family so that DUSTY and her humans can all learn each others body language, personality, boundaries and expectations this also helps to build a strong bond and trust with each other. Formal training sessions are good for socialization and meeting other dogs and people.
DUSTY would benefit from a family that has time to take her on road trips, to places where she can explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. This will help not just with her physical exercise needs, but also her mental stimulation. She has lived a rough life, given birth, lost some of her puppies, but cared for the survivors and now it is her turn to enjoy the life that she deserves.
DUSTY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $550.
This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.
If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.
Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

DUSTY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located just outside the towns of Dover-Foxcroft and Milo (approx 8 miles) and approx 45 miles from Bangor. There are also lots of hotels, motels, pet friendly accommodations and wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
