HOLSLINGER was saved from Texas where dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed.
HOLSLINGER
is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has an estimated date of birth of 16 November 2014 old and at the time of rescue (December 2016) weighed around 73 pounds.
HOLSLINGER when he first arrived at the rescue was so excited, he wanted to go everywhere and get into everything, he seemed like he wanted to attack the little dogs and so I had him in a pen for a few days for him to de-compress so I could assess him. I soon discovered that HOLSLINGER absolutely LOVES having a ball and as long as he had a tennis ball he was more than happy and spent lots of time entertaining himself. After a few days I brought HOLSLINGER upstairs to the main house to live with the other rescue dogs and he did absolutely wonderful. He was not intimidated by a lot of dogs wanting to check him out, but he did stay close to me for re-assurance. He didn't pay any attention to the small dogs or the puppies, but explored and then soon settled down. He does get a posesseive with his ball, or whatever toy he has and will growl if another dog comes near him if he thinks the dog is going to take it. There has been nothing more than a warning growl, which is obviously how dogs communicate and he has never shown any sign of aggression at all.
HOLSLINGER is a typical German Shepherd that is going to need to be kept busy, he is very high energy and very intelligent and you can see him constantly looking and thinking of what to do next. Playing ball in the back yard will not enough or fair for this boy, he needs to have lots of training, lots of interaction to keep his mind engaged and have a lot of ways to expel his high energy. Do not apply for HOLSINGER because he is a good looking dog, you need to have the time and experience to give him the home that he needs and deserves.
HOLSLINGER at the moment is NOT house-trained although of course this is something I am working on. I do have dog doors and most of the time he has started using them, but then out of the blue he will do his business in the house, so this is something to take into consideration, he will need a patient and understanding family that will continue to work with him and help him learn and adjust to his new routine.
HOLSLINGER
would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both
HOLSLINGER
and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed.
We are looking for experienced German Shepherd owners for HOLSLINGER who have the time, energy and understanding to give him what he needs.

HOLSLINGER
is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. Sebec is located inbetween two small towns, Dover-Foxcroft and Milo, both approximately 6 miles away and the closest major city is Bangor (approx 45 miles). Many families travel and make a mini-vacation out of the trip and stay in beautiful Maine for the weekend, however, if this is not possible and there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.
