DUTCHESS  is spayed, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm & tick-disease tested Negative and micro-chipped, she weighs around 45 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of 24 December 2014.

Beautiful DUTCHESS has clearly been starved, neglected and abused, but her loving, sweet affection personality has not be trashed by her horrible past. DUTCHESS loves to cuddle, she will climb up on your lap if you would let her and just lie on/with you enjoying and sharing in the love.

Initially DUTCHESS was not good with other dogs, especially small dogs and I had her posted as such, however, over the past few weeks she has become much more settled and one of the small terriers we have is now her best friend. I think she has probably not been with or near other dogs before and so she didn't know how to act. Now living with the rescue dogs, she is happy confident, she always lies close by me and is affectionate to the other dogs also.

I do not know how she would be around cats and I would suggest close monitoring with all pets in her new family, I do think she has prey drive and so chasing squirrels will no doubt be something she enjoys.

DUTCHESS is great around all people of all ages, she has been starved from affection as much as she had food and she will do almost anything to gain your attention to get some loving. She does pull on the leash, but it is most likely she has never been on a leash before she was picked up by animal control.

DUTCHESS rides great in the car and after watching the world pass her by, she is quite happy to settle down and fall asleep.

DUTCHESS is still young and her ideal family will be active, who are willing and capable of taking her on adventures and road trips so that she can explore all the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. She will need at least basic and advanced training, but due to her desperation for attention and affection, training I believe would be pretty easy and of course a lot of fun.

DUTCHESS is currently being free fed and although initially I fed her seperately she eats with the other dogs. She does have a habit of putting the kibble in her mouth, taking it to the living room, dropping it and eating it there. She is eating a good amount of 4* grain free kibble and is also being given, honey, coconut oil, colostrum powder, vitamin c and fish oil to help build up her immune system and gain much needed weight.

When DUTCHESS arrived in rescue our sponsors gave her the complete works in grooming and she did great and clearly felt a lot better afterwards.

DUTCHESS is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $450. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this stunning, energetic girl a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

DUTCHESS is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend.
